“Haguruka” is a Kirundi expression which means “stand up”. Through our initiatives, we hope to help the most disadvantaged to rise out of poverty, silence, and ultimately out of all the socioeconomic injustices that prevent them from flourishing.
Since our inception we have held several events and fundraising campaigns to support our programs.
The project aims to empower women at a socio-economic level, reduce poverty in Burundi, improve access to education, health care & create economic opportunities for women.
Launched in March 2014, project Nawe Nuze was made possible through a partnership with L’Association nationale de soutien aux séropositifs et malades du sida (ANSS).
Project ITEKA was devised to help women-led households or young girls to overcome financial hardship and flourish. More information are available in our 2014 Annual Report.
Haguruka offers many opportunities for meaningful contribution to worthy causes and projects, while providing unparalleled life experiences and the chance to build lifelong bonds as well as grow professional networks.
Haguruka is a non-profit organization, based in Toronto (Canada) that strives to financially and socially empower women in Burundi, and support women in need in the diaspora in Canada.
